President Tebboune: Full security, stability in Africa require eradicating last remnants of colonialism

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized that achieving full security and stability in Africa imperatively requires eradicating the last remnants of colonialism on the continent.

In an address delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb at the Third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow, the President of the Republic said that "our continent, with its rich history of struggle against all forms of colonialism, exploitation, and imposed fait accompli, remains steadfastly committed to the principle of self-determination in line with international legality."

President Tebboune pointed out that "achieving full security and stability on our continent imperatively requires eradicating the last remnants of colonialism in Africa, namely the issue of Western Sahara."

He noted that Algeria "commends the UN Security Council's efforts, which resulted in the resumption of negotiations between the two parties to the conflict earlier this year under the auspices of the United Nations."

After praising the UN step, the President of the Republic expressed his sincere appreciation to Russia for "its steadfast and principled stance supporting the right to self-determination, as well as its unwavering commitment to supporting the UN-led process and the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions."

Algeria also reiterates "its support for this process and affirms that a just and lasting solution can only be achieved through a consensual political settlement that guarantees the Sahrawi people their inherent right to self-determination in accordance with international legality," the President of the Republic said.

He emphasized that "illegal foreign interference in the internal affairs of African states, whatever its pretexts, serves only to fuel hotbeds of tension, deepen divisions, and prolong crises, thus threatening regional and international peace and security, hindering development paths, and draining our peoples' resources."

President Tebboune stressed that "true stability cannot be imported or imposed by force; rather, it is a natural outcome of respecting state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inclusive political dialogue led by the citizens of the country themselves."

He pointed out that Algeria "firmly recognizes that security and stability in Africa cannot be achieved in isolation from comprehensive socio-economic development."
