Celebration of the National Remembrance Day

The Algerian Embassy in Nigeria celebrated today, Friday 08 May 2026, the National Remembrance Day, coinciding with the 81st anniversary of the massacres of May 8, 1945, during a ceremony held at the Chancery Hall, attended by all Embassy staff.

On this occasion, the Algerian national anthem was sung and the Fatiha Sourate recited on the memory of the Algerian martyrs.

During this ceremony, Ambassador Hocine MEZOUED has delivered a short speech, emphasizing the symbol of this commemoration in the History of Algeria, and recalled that these massacres marked a decisive turning point in the outbreak of the glorious war of national liberation, which ultimately enabled the Algerian people to regain its independence and full sovereignty.
